2027 Winter Backcountry Ski and Board Reservations Now Open at Downing Mountain Lodge

As the 2026 backcountry ski and board season comes to a close, we’ve been reflecting on what makes Downing Mountain Lodge so special. Many of you have been part of this mountain community for years. In fact, some guests have returned every winter since 2008–2009. To each of you who made Downing Mountain Lodge part of your Montana ski tradition, thank you.

Even with a warm and windy winter in Western Montana, the spirit and connection you brought carried the season. More importantly, seeing familiar faces return to our remote mountain lodge year after year means the world to us. Guests come here for backcountry skiing, snowboarding, ski touring, winter retreats, and mountain adventure. Together, you create the heart of this place.

Because of your continued support, we feel deep gratitude and responsibility to keep creating an authentic Montana mountain experience that feels adventurous, welcoming, and restorative.

Over the past few seasons, we’ve continued improving Downing Mountain Lodge & Retreat. These upgrades are designed to deepen comfort, connection, and the overall guest experience. At the same time, we remain committed to preserving the rustic soul of the property.

And now, something BIG is underway.

Currently, we are working on an exciting new lodge upgrade that will be revealed this fall. It’s something we’ve been dreaming about for a long time, and we cannot wait to share it with you. More details will be coming soon.

2027 Winter Reservations Are Now Open

Reservations for the 2027 winter season are officially open. Already, many returning ski groups have secured their dates, and availability is beginning to fill quickly.

So, if you’ve been dreaming about a Montana backcountry ski trip, winter retreat, snowboarding getaway, or secluded mountain escape, now is the time to reserve your stay.

A Montana Mountain Retreat for Every Season

While winter brings incredible backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the Bitterroot Mountains, the lodge is magical year-round as well.

Throughout spring, summer, and fall, guests enjoy wildflowers, hiking, huckleberry picking, cool mountain evenings, and peaceful alpine views. Additionally, we host destination weddings, wellness retreats, family gatherings, and private group stays throughout the year.
